Koala Mascot Design & Fabrication

Koala Mascot

Illustration and branding work for Kadince, a company based in Utah that was looking to have a character created to work as a liaison for the brand. We wanted to make this character clean cut, cool, and competent. Someone that could go around and shake hands at conferences, but also help out around the site. He's always helping, never in the way.

This was net new IP for the brand, having not dealt with illustration in the past I was happy to have the opportunity to inform the way illustration would be presented and handled for the brand. Together we came up with the character design and general rulebook, plenty of imagery to be used around site and for marketing purposes, and most enjoyably, I was able to direct the actual fabrication of the mascot / costume design.

Process & Sketches

Working on brand collateral with a company over the course of months or years (continuing relationships) is exciting because we get to evolve together. This was a project type that the client hadn't worked on yet, so they were very excited, and very open to ideas and my expertise.

From a digital standpoint, this was something I've worked on a hundred times. For the actual fabrication, something new entirely and very exciting. I worked alongside Alinco Costume Design from the engineering and prototyping phase, to selecting fabrics, all the way to revisions months later, constantly making our big bear the perfect representation of the little bear we made on screen.
