Facebook: Baseball Props Messenger Sticker Pack

Facebook asked me to get weird and draw some baseball themed prop stickers to decorate users' photos with for the (at the time) upcoming Opening Day.

Facebook Baseball Props Stickers

Facebook asked me to develop a baseball themed prop pack to decorate photos for the (at the time) upcoming Opening Day. Stylistically, we approached them with the fun and wonky shapes we all know and love. Trying to take otherwise normal objects and really expand on their interesting shapes and features while keeping things useable and versatile for any photo.

Pushing the colors further and further to avoid too much of a 'family' feel as well as keeping them as high contrast as possible (for use on any potential photo) was the most fun challenge. I didn't want all of the icons to feel like they were using a similar color palette and have a minor difference between each one. Instead, I wanted each sticker to have a totally different look from the other as much as possible.

You can play with them if you post a photo on Facebook and click the magic wand.

Sketches & Process

The things I had to be aware of when designing for such a versatile application (literally whatever photo the user wants to upload and decorate) are color contrast (without copping out and just using outlines) and visual interest. I started things out with boring colors that felt more realistic to me, which proved to be both uninteresting and low in contrast. Below are a few examples of this, which all were fixed in the end.
